PHAMALY THEATRE COMPANY ANNOUNCES 2019 SUMMER MUSICAL, CHICAGO
Phamaly will bring the musical to DPAC Studio Loft this summer
Denver, Colorado, April 22, 2019: Phamaly Theatre Company announced that it will bring Chicago to the stage for its 30TH anniversary summer musical.
Chicago is the story or Roxie Hart, an aspiring vaudevillian performer, who lands herself in prison after murdering her lover. Working with lawyer to the stars, Billy Flynn, and rivaling with fellow cellmate, Velma Kelly, she employs the glitz and glamour of the 1920s and a media circus to spin her story.
“It’s a huge year for Phamaly to be celebrating 30 years as a homegrown Colorado nonprofit arts organization,” says Regan Linton, Phamaly’s Artistic Director. “In celebratory fashion, we really want people to have a good time with us this summer. Chicago is a wildly enjoyable romp that will demonstrate the maturity of Phamaly over the last three decades. As a show that is so well-known for its Fosse-style choreography, it will be a particularly exciting musical to reimagine through the lens of disability with our incredible theatre artists.”
Linton will direct Chicago, collaborating with longtime Phamaly artists by her side, including Musical Director, Donna Debreceni; Choreographers, Debbie Stark, Ronni Stark, and Gabrielle Barnett; and Assistant Director, Daniel Traylor, the son of Kathleen Traylor, one of Phamaly’s founders.
The cast will include local award-winning actors and Phamaly favorites: Leonard E. Barrett Jr. as Billy Flynn, Erin Schneider as Velma Kelly, Robert Michael Sanders as Amos Hart, Megan McGuire as Roxie Hart, and an ensemble including Phamaly founder, Kathleen Traylor, and Denver favorite, Lucy Roucis.
Chicago will be performed at the Studio Loft at the Denver Performing Arts Complex from August 1-25, 2019, with support from Denver Arts and Venues and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
“The Studio Loft is a new location for us, and we’re excited about the creative opportunities of transforming the space while maintaining our commitment to accessibility,” says Linton. Ticketing will include options for special cabaret table seating for all performances; Thursday night Inclusive Hospitality tickets (limited number of tickets for $1); accessible performances with ASL interpretation, audio description, a tactile tour and a Sensory Friendly performance on Wednesday, August 21.
Tickets are now on sale through the DCPA Box Office. Learn more about the show and cast and reserve your tickets at www.phamaly.org or by calling 303-893-4100.
