Phamaly Theatre Company Announces 30th Anniversary Season

Transforming Stories. Deconstructing Barriers. Elevating Disability.

Denver, Colorado, November 14, 2018: Over the last three decades Phamaly Theatre Company has been
innovating arts and performance throughout Denver. In 1989 a group of five wheelchair-using individuals
brought Guys and Dolls to the stage, challenging the conventions of theatre and building a community built on
education, accessibility, creativity. Since then the organization has grown to perform over 60 shows in the last
three decades.

As the organization reaches this milestone year, Phamaly Theatre Company’s Artistic Director, Regan Linton,
announced the 2019 season today. This year’s productions will focus on the following commitments:
Transforming Stories. Deconstructing Barriers. Elevating Disability.

“This is a celebratory year for us, and we are bringing a wide variety of productions to the stage in honor of
this milestone," said Regan Linton, "The Denver and Colorado community has supported this extraordinary
company for the last three decades and we are excited to give back with new productions, both on-stage and
on-line throughout the next year.”

The season kicks off in January with Morph Masters: How Disability Made Famous Artists Awesome! A
brand-new educational touring show, Morph Masters was co-created with Phamaly artists. It explores famous
artists who live(d) and work(ed) with a disability, including Ludwig von Beethoven, Frida Kahlo, Stevie Wonder,
Stephen Wilshire, Sarah Bernhardt, and Claire Cunningham. Kickoff performances will be FREE to audiences,
and Morph Masters will be available for touring to schools and other venues across Colorado throughout

During May and June, Phamaly will celebrate with a 30th Anniversary Concert , directed by Phamaly’s
acclaimed former Artistic Director Steve Wilson. Audiences will look back over musical performances from the
past 30 years alongside stories from behind-the-scenes. The 30th Anniversary Concert will be performed in
various locations across the metro area with suggested donation pricing.

Phamaly’s Summer 2019 Musical will come to life in August, in collaboration with Denver’s Arts and Venues.
Due to rights restrictions, the title will not be announced until April 2019. This is a show you won’t want to
miss! The summer musical is led by some of Phamaly’s most beloved and longtime artists, including by current
Artistic Director and performer Regan Linton with musical direction by Donna Debreceni and choreography by
Debbie Stark and Ronni Stark.

The season finale, Come to your Senses: A One-Act Play Festival , will celebrate the work of national
playwrights with disabilities, local directors and Phamaly actors. Featuring six new short plays by playwrights
with disabilities, the show will be staged in various locations at the RedLine Contemporary Art Center.
Audiences will move through the space as they experience each individual production. A call for play
submissions will be broadcast in early 2019.

In addition to mainstage season offerings, Phamaly will release a new series of webisodes, “How To Be a Good
____ To a Human With a Disability.” Funny, irreverent, and honest, the series will feature the writing of
Phamaly actors/writers Laura Alsum and Jeremy Palmer and a number of Phamaly actors with short vignettes
on how to be a friend, stranger, lover, and more to a human with a disability.
