Participate in PHAMALY
20 years ago, five classmates at a school for young people with disabilities dreamed that they could create a better future for themselves and for others like them - talented, passionate performers whose hearts fill with joy when they take their places onstage. Together they formed PHAMALY, presenting Guys and Dolls before an appreciative audience in their school auditorium. And they dared to dream that perhaps they might be able to keep sharing their passion to perform, and perhaps there might be more audiences who wanted to see them.
In the years since imagining that dream, PHAMALY's 21 full productions from The Wiz to Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to Side Show, have played for cheering audiences totaling more than 75,000 at some of the most prestigious theatres in the region. Our touring outreach programs have been performed in front of national and local leaders and at events such as the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Thousands of schoolchildren have learned through our programs that disabled doesn't mean unable. Armies of volunteers dedicate over 4,000 hours of service each year to make our productions possible. More than 100 performers with disabilities have committed to the challenging work of professional theatre, many finding within themselves deep reservoirs of strength, courage and sheer joy. Throughout this journey, PHAMALY's work has touched the lives of all of us who watch in wonder as the improbable is made possible.
