Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Awards PHAMALY 2011 Small Nonprofit Organization of the Year

(Denver)On May 4, PHAMALY, the Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artist League, was honored to receive the 2011 Small Nonprofit Organization of the Year Award from the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.

Each year the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, with presenting sponsor Colorado Business Bank, presents the Small Business of the Year, the Emerging Business of the Year, the Minority-owned Business of the Year, the Large and Small Nonprofit Organization of the Year and the Green Business of the Year awards. This years recipients were honored at the annual luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center.

PHAMALY (Physically Handicapped Actors and Musical Artists League) provides professional opportunities and artistic development for performers with disabilities and promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities in the performing arts community.

The 22-year-old organization gives performers with disabilities not only the confidence to perform on stage in productions, but the confidence to go after other important roles in life, such as job opportunities, said Executive Director Chris Silberman.

“This support has helped generate a community that the actors can call family with an “f,” he said.

This award signifies that PHAMALY provides a high level of quality in its programs, community service and administrative ability.

PHAMALY achieves its goals through three primary programs — two productions, one musical and one dramatic, performed entirely by persons with disabilities; and an outreach program, which brings performers with disabilities to a variety of community venues. In the past year, PHAMALY has served more than 10,000 people statewide with its diverse approach to the arts. Its long-term goal is to reach out to the more than 507,000 people in Colorado living with a disability. For more information, go to www.phamaly.org

PHAMALY is proudly supported by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), Colorado Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Denver Post and others.
